Media Digest Publication shows Newspapers in Canada Thrive
The newest issue (2011-2012) of the CMDC Media Digest came out recently. It’s a publication that covers details on the broad spectrum of Canadian media for use by marketers, advertising and media agencies and media suppliers.
The Media Digest gets issued annually and is prepared by the Canadian Media Directors’ Council and published by Marketing Mag.
There was an interesting special section about newspapers in the newest Media Digest. The special section elaborated on how well newspapers are performing in Canada and showed some statistics. It mentions: “Newspapers in Canada are thriving!” and this is demonstrated by industry data that shows growth in Canadian readership over the past five years.
The special section also explains that Canadians want newspaper ads and that newspapers score the highest in terms of “it is most acceptable for this medium to have ads.” According to the special section in the Media Digest, Canadians trust the ads in newspapers and “an advertiser that wants to be trusted or to have their message believed should use newspapers as part of their plan.”

Community Newspapers Provide Comprehensive Local Coverage
A BC community newspaper wrote an interesting article about how community newspapers provide comprehensive local coverage.
Ken Alexander of the 100 Mile House Free Press writes: “Community newspapers are the authoritative source of news around the province and, indeed, across the country. Community newspapers do two simple but very important things for the residents of their communities. They chronicle the history of the community in a fair an accurate manner, so people can go back in time to pull up historical information. Community newspapers also supply the “fridge art” for the community – the photos we cut out of the Free Press and put on the refrigerator door for a while. Then we place them in a special box that will that will play an integral role in a graduation or wedding album years down the road. Simply stated community newspapers print all of the important news of their residents, including the births, deaths, crime, good news, as well as trials and tribulations.”
